World Brain Day is celebrated every year on 22 July. This day has been kept to keep the mind healthy and to make people aware about many important things related to it. But do you know that like the body, the mind can also be detoxified. Actually, nowadays, like detoxing the body, brain detox is also discussed a lot. People believe that the mind can be completely cleaned by certain methods. But experts say that there is no such magical method.
The brain keeps itself naturally healthy. In true sense, brain detox means adopting such habits, which reduce stress on the brain, improve the ability to think and understand and keep mental health strong.
Ways to detox the brain
Good sleep recharges the brain- Dr. Rajul Aggarwal (Director-Neurology, Shri Balaji Action Medical Institute Delhi) says that adequate sleep is most important to keep the brain healthy. During sleep, the brain recovers from the day’s fatigue and organizes itself. Chronically less sleep can affect memory, concentration and decision-making ability. Every person should try to get good sleep of 7 to 9 hours daily, so that the brain can function better.
Digital break is also necessary- In today’s time, continuous use of mobile, laptop and social media is putting additional pressure on the brain. Watching screens for long periods of time can increase problems like distraction, mental fatigue and stress. Digital breaks should be taken for some time during the day. Reading a book, spending time with family, being amidst nature or doing activities of your choice helps in relaxing the mind.
Effect of diet and exercise on brain- Food also plays a big role in keeping the brain healthy. According to experts, green vegetables, fruits, nuts, protein-rich food and adequate water are beneficial for the brain. Apart from this, regular exercise or 30 minutes walk daily improves blood circulation in the brain. Physical activity also helps reduce stress and improve mood.
The biggest solution is to reduce stress- Chronic stress can affect brain function. Work pressure, lack of sleep, anxiety and a constantly hectic life put additional burden on the brain, which can weaken memory, concentration and decision-making ability. According to experts, maintaining mental peace is very important for brain health.
Yoga, meditation, deep breathing techniques, spending time in nature and indulging in activities of your choice can help reduce stress.
Keep these things in mind- Apart from this, it is also important to take short breaks in between the day’s work and take out time for yourself. Instead of relying on any shortcut or miraculous solution in the name of brain detox, adopting healthy habits like regular sleep, balanced diet, exercise and positive thinking is the most effective way to keep the brain healthy and active in the long run.
