Worked 15 hours, did not get salary for 4 months… Painful story of Indian woman stranded in Oman

Cases of making people victims of fraud and exploitation by showing them dreams of good jobs and better earnings in foreign countries are continuously coming to light. The latest case is that of Shabnam Begum, a resident of Hyderabad, who has alleged that after reaching Oman, she was made to work for 12 to 15 hours every day, was not paid salary for more than three months and was treated inhumanely. Now after his video surfaced, this matter is in discussion and he has appealed to the Government of India to bring him back home safely.

Shabnam Begum says that she went to Muscat, Oman on 26 March 2026 through a local agent. Shabnam is a resident of Hyderabad, Telangana. She was promised a job as a housemaid and a salary of 200 Omani Riyal (about Rs 50 thousand) every month. But after reaching there the situation changed completely. They allege that they were made to work in different houses for long hours, were not provided with proper food, had no good living arrangements and were not even paid salaries for several months. He also claimed that his mobile phone was snatched away for a long time and he was not allowed to contact anyone outside.

Video sent to politician

Shabnam sent her recorded video to a politician. He had sent the video to Hyderabad politician, Amjad Ullah Khan of Majlis Bachao Tehreek. In the video he told that he was made to work day and night and was not even paid for it. Not only this, the woman has alleged that she had to face a lot of troubles and was also beaten up.

It is being told that when Shabnam somehow got a chance, she left her employer’s house and reached the Indian Embassy and sought help there. After his video surfaced, this matter has become increasingly discussed. Local social workers and public representatives have also asked the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene and bring them back to India soon.

Appealed to bring it to India

The woman’s family appealed to Foreign Minister S. Has appealed to Jaishankar for help. He has said that the Indian Embassy present in Muscat should ensure the safety of the woman and bring her back to India soon. The Indian Embassy also responded saying that it has started action on this matter and talks are being held with the concerned authorities. At the same time, Amjad Ullah has demanded that action should also be taken against the agent who sent the woman to Oman by making false promises. At present, help is being expected from the Indian Embassy and related agencies for Shabnam’s safe return.
