Women’s T20 World Cup: Team India’s fast bowling is missing, spinners are taking wickets, will they become world champions like this?

June 24, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The current ODI World Champion Indian team is trying to win the T20 World Cup for the first time. Team India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, started the tournament on a strong note and won two consecutive matches by a huge margin. However, both these matches were against weak teams like Pakistan and Netherlands. As soon as a strong team like South Africa came forward, Team India had to face defeat. Although Team India is still strong in the race for the semi-finals, but will it be successful in it? This question is arising because the fast bowling of the team seems to be completely missing.

Team India’s batting has been on target in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England. especially the team Captain Harmanpreet She herself is seen struggling. She has not yet been seen in the form for which she is famous and which Team India needs from her. But apart from batting, the fast bowling of the Indian team has not been able to leave much impact till now and only the spinners are carrying the entire responsibility.

Dominance of spinners, pacer completely missing

The Indian team has played 3 matches so far and most of the bowling responsibility has been handled by all the spinners including Deepti Sharma, Shri Charani. At the same time, the team has used only 3 pacers in the form of Kranti Gaur, Arundhati Reddy and Nandini Sharma. In such a situation, it is clear that Team India’s strategy is to trap the opponents on the basis of spinners and in this it has been mostly successful. Not only for Team India, but for other teams too, spinners are getting most of the wickets.

But there is a big difference between other teams and India and this difference is of balance. Team India’s fast bowlers have not been able to provide this balance yet. Statistics show that Indian pacers have bowled only 15.1 overs so far in this World Cup. This is not much but in this he has taken only 2 wickets in his account. Both these wickets were taken by Nandini Sharma against Netherlands. On the contrary, the spinners have taken 21 wickets.

Australia-England have better balance

If we talk about Australia, its bowlers have taken a total of 27 wickets, out of which 14 wickets have come in the bag of spinners and 13 wickets have been taken by fast bowlers. It’s a perfect balance, which is important for the team. Similarly, so is England, for whom spinners have taken 19 wickets and fast bowlers have taken 11 wickets in 4 matches. South Africa is completely opposite to Team India, for which fast bowlers have taken 17 out of 20 wickets. Obviously, if Team India has to claim the title, then it will have to show confidence in its fast bowlers and the bowlers will also have to live up to it.
