Women’s T20 World Cup 2026: Dropped the most catches, yet made the first place in the semi-finals, gave a huge blow to West Indies

June 25, 2026 by Uma Shankar

England Into Semi-Final, Women’s T20 World Cup 2026: It is said that in cricket there is a rule of ‘drop the catch, leave the match’, but in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, the England women’s team completely refuted this saying. Despite doing the worst fielding so far in the tournament and dropping the most catches, the England team has secured the semi-final ticket first. With the victory over West Indies in this important match of Group-2, the English team was successful in making it to the top-4. England defeated West Indies by 38 runs and achieved their fourth consecutive win.

Danny Wyatt Hodge’s stormy innings

In this match played at the historic Lord’s ground, West Indies won the toss and invited England to bat first. But England did not have a good start and opener Amy Jones returned to the pavilion in the very first over. After this, opening batsman Danny Wyatt Hodge took the field. Wyatt Hodge, who was in excellent form, took the West Indies bowlers to task and completed his half-century in just 32 balls. He made a strong partnership of 66 runs with Ellis Capsey (28 runs).

Danny Wyatt played an entertaining inning of 65 runs in 42 balls. Apart from him, experienced Heather Knight also added a quick 43 runs. However, in the 16th over of the innings, Danny Wyatt and then Heather Knight became victims of runouts, due to which there was some chaos at the end of the innings. Despite this, England scored a huge score of 186 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. This is the biggest score ever in women’s T20 International cricket at Lord’s.

West Indies’ batting was nothing special

In response to this target, the West Indies team could score only 148 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs and had to face its first defeat of the tournament. During this, Deandra Dottin scored 19 runs and made a good start, but she could not play a long innings. Chinelle Henry held one end in the middle order and played a brilliant inning of 51 not out in just 30 balls by hitting a six in the last over. But due to lack of cooperation from the other side, the West Indies team remained away from the target. At the same time, Charlie Dean took the captaincy from England and took 2 wickets for 31 runs.

England team is number-1 in dropping catches

The level of England’s fielding has been very poor in this World Cup. If we look at the statistics, the England team is at the top in terms of dropping the most catches in this tournament. England players have made many big mistakes in the tournament so far. The England team has missed almost half of its catch opportunities (about 48.4%), which is a very worrying figure for any top team. At the same time, in this matter the Indian team seems to be in a much better position than other teams with 70.8% catching success rate.

Which team dropped how many catches?

  • England: 15 catches dropped (catching percentage just 51.6%)
  • New Zealand: 14 catches dropped (catching percentage 41.6%)
  • West Indies: 9 catches dropped (catching percentage 67.8%)
  • Netherlands: 9 catches dropped (catching percentage 50.0%)
  • Sri Lanka: 7 catches dropped (catching percentage 63.1%)
  • India: 7 catches dropped (catching percentage 70.8%)
