Why are Australian cricket teams successful in ICC tournaments? Often the answer is given to their mentality. The talent of the players is definitely at its place. But not every team or every player seems mentally strong for a match like the final. Australia is different in this matter. Dozens of players have done this in the last several decades. Now a new name has been added to this list, that of Lucy Hamilton, who played her first match in the Women’s T20 World Cup directly against England in the final.
Before the start of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, 20-year-old fast bowler Lucy Hamilton had played only one T20 match and a total of 4 international matches. This left-arm pacer made his debut for Australia in all three formats in March this year. Despite so little experience, he was selected in Australia’s World Cup team. Here she did not get a chance in the first two matches but then from the third match she came into the playing-11.
However, the league stage was not good for Lucy Hamilton and she could not take a single wicket in 3 matches. His bowling was definitely very economical. He did not get any success in the semi-finals also. Despite this, the Australian team did not drop him and fielded him against England in the final. This young bowler proved his trust justified. Lucy, who came out to bowl in the second over of the match, opened her account by taking the wicket of opener Amy Jones on her very second ball and gave a good start to the team.
Hamilton also bowled strongly in the final and took 1 wicket for just 19 runs in 3 overs. However, England recovered from the bad start and somehow touched the 150-run mark, in which once again captain Nate Siver-Brunt had a big contribution. After scoring a match-winning half-century in the semi-finals, Siver-Brunt again scored a fifty and scored 58 runs, taking the team to 150 runs. Whereas Freya Camp added life to the team’s score by scoring unbeaten 44 runs in just 28 balls. Apart from Hamilton, experienced pacer Kim Garth also did wonders in the final and achieved 1 success by giving only 20 runs in 4 overs.
