Will your incoming calls stop when recharge is over? Government answered in Parliament

July 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

After the recharge plan ends, incoming calls are also stopped immediately. This question troubles everyone that why the service stops immediately, now recently this question was raised in the Parliament and what answer did the government give in response to this? Let us tell you.

Not just one, MP Rajkumar Roat raised many questions

Question: Rajkumar Roat is an Indian politician and Member of Parliament (MP) in the 18th Lok Sabha representing the Banswara constituency of Rajasthan. He asked some questions in Parliament and he asked whether the Minister of Communications would be pleased to state that the telecom companies recharge What are the details of implementation of the policy by the telecom companies till the date of launch of the scheme of stopping incoming service after expiry of validity? What is its regulatory basis and how much revenue has each telecom company received since its implementation?

Not only this, he has also raised many other questions in the Parliament such as what steps is the government taking to address the problems of consumers who have to keep two SIM cards for different reasons and hence have to recharge both the SIMs? Does the government propose to make strict and clear rules to ensure that telecom companies do not stop incoming services as soon as the recharge period ends?

answer: Minister of State for Communications, Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, in response to questions, said that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997, empowers the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to notify the rates of telecommunication services. As per the existing tariff framework, forbearance is applicable on tariffs for mobile and data services, except for services like national roaming, rural fixed line service, mobile number portability and leased circuits.

Service providers are free to design and offer tariffs based on their understanding of the market situation and other commercial factors, subject to compliance with the existing regulatory rules. There is competition in the market and due to government policies and regulatory framework notified by TRAI, India has the lowest tariffs for mobile service subscribers. Additionally, as per TRAI’s regulatory framework, there is no specific regulatory mandate to stop incoming services after the recharge validity is over.

Question: Is the government planning to issue necessary instructions to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to regulate the continuous increase in telecom tariffs and mandate recharge validity of 30 days instead of the existing validity period of 28 days? If yes, then when will it be implemented and if not, what are the reasons?

answer: TRAI has already mandated through the Telecom Tariffs Order, 1999 (66th and 67th Amendment) that every telecom service provider shall provide at least one plan voucher, one special 2 tariff voucher and one combo voucher with a validity of thirty days.

Further, every telecom service provider shall provide at least one plan voucher, one special tariff voucher and one combo voucher, which shall be updated on the same date of every month and if the date of such renewal is not available in any month, the date of renewal shall be the last date of that month.
