There was a 90-minute phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. Trump congratulated Putin on America’s 250th Foundation Day. During the conversation, Trump offered to help end the Ukraine war. This information was given by Russian official Yuri Ushakov. “This fourth conversation this year was naturally not just a mere formality, but work-oriented and very constructive. It provided an opportunity to candidly discuss important issues on the bilateral and international agenda,” the presidential aide said.
Will Witkoff and Kushner lead the negotiations?
During the conversation, Putin described the actual situation on the battlefield, in which Russian troops are advancing on all sides of the Line of Contact. Ushakov said that amid the Ukraine conflict, the European countries’ understanding of the situation and ground reality on the contact line is wrong.
He said that Trump offered to mediate in connection with his participation in the NATO summit to be held in Türkiye next week. He quoted the US President as saying that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will continue their efforts to broker an agreement and are ready to make another visit to Moscow.
There are many possibilities for mutual cooperation between the two countries.
The two Presidents stressed the importance of maintaining continuous dialogue within bilateral relations, including on the military-political and economic fronts. Ushakov said, “There is great potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between our two countries in these areas. Trump stressed that an early resolution of the Ukraine conflict would be a necessary condition for the start of such cooperation.”
Ushakov also accused Kiev and its European allies of “escalating and even exacerbating the conflict and resorting to terrorism against civilians.” According to local media reports, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Saturday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky can visit Moscow to meet President Putin, provided he is ready to take important and responsible decisions that the Kremlin has described as important.
