Will Sonam Raghuvanshi’s problems increase? Meghalaya government demands cancellation of bail, hearing on July 14

Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main accused in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya last year, has told the Supreme Court that she has been wrongly implicated in the case, based on circumstantial evidence. He said that the entire case of the prosecution is based on circumstantial evidence, which it is the responsibility of the prosecution to prove beyond doubt in the court.

He said that he cannot be considered guilty on the basis of allegations alone. That is why the court has no basis to cancel her bail, she is fully cooperating in the trial.

Demand to cancel Sonam’s bail

There itself, Government of Meghalaya The court has been demanded to cancel Sonam’s bail. Sonam has said in her counter affidavit filed in the Supreme Court that she is fully cooperating in the trial and if there is any delay in the trial, she is not responsible for it.

Relying on the charge sheet, Sonam has said that the names of 90 witnesses are in the list, out of which only 4 witnesses have been examined till date and 86 witnesses are yet to be examined. The reply further states that from October 28, 2025 till now, i.e. in more than 7 months, only 4 witnesses have been examined. The way the trial is going on, it will take a lot of time to interrogate the remaining 86 witnesses.”

Sonam is on bail since April 28

Sonam further told the bench that she was currently living in Shillong and had never gone out of the jurisdiction of the trial court. Sonam told the court that she got bail on 27 April 2026. After that he was released from jail on 28 April 2026. In such a situation, there is no justification for sending him to jail again, because the necessary legal grounds for canceling the bail are not present in this case. On the other hand, the petition filed by the Meghalaya government demanding cancellation of bail will be heard in the Supreme Court on July 14.

The bench of Justice Manoj Mishra and Justice Shri Chandrashekhar has directed that by then written submissions should be filed so that the case can be heard in detail. Noting that the matter before it is serious, the bench said, “We will consider the matter in detail and see whether the matter has to be referred to a larger bench.
