There was a stir in the politics of Bihar on Saturday when former JDU national president and former Union Minister RCP Singh reached former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s residence on Patna 7 Circular Road to meet him. During this, there was a private conversation between the two leaders for more than 20 minutes. It is believed that after this meeting, the path for RCP Singh’s return to JDU seems clear.
After this meeting, RCP Singh told on social media platform ‘X’ that he had a cordial conversation with Nitish Kumar. He also shared a photo of the meeting. However, the situation took a new turn when some supporters of RCP Singh claimed that the meeting with Nitish Kumar did not actually take place. Supporters alleged that MLC Sanjay Gandhi and Lalan Saraf did not allow the meeting between the two leaders. After this the supporters raised slogans against both the leaders. There has been no official response from RCP Singh regarding this claim.
Who is RCP Singh?
In Bihar politics, Ramchandra Prasad Singh (RCP Singh) was counted among the most trusted associates of Nitish Kumar. RCP Singh, a 1984 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre, joined JDU after a long administrative career and quickly rose to high positions in the party. He played an important role in organizational matters, election strategy and taking important decisions. Nitish Kumar sent him to Rajya Sabha and later made him the national president of JDU. He was considered Nitish’s “right hand”.
Left JDU in 2021
In 2021, he became the Union Steel Minister, but later his relations with JDU turned sour. The differences came to the fore when JDU did not nominate him again for Rajya Sabha in 2022. Questions were raised about his assets and RCP Singh resigned from JDU alleging that the party had deviated from its core principles. After this, he formed his own party ‘Aap Sabki Awaaz’ (ASA) and tried to create his own identity in Bihar.
What is the meaning of this meeting?
RCP Singh was once counted among the most trusted associates of Nitish Kumar. However, after becoming Union Minister, there was distance in their relationship and ultimately he had to leave JDU. After this he formed a separate political party, but failed to make the desired impact in the politics of Bihar. For the last few months, RCP Singh has been expressing his affection towards Nitish Kumar. He has continuously said that his personal relations with Nitish Kumar and his family never ended.
Nitish’s politics will change with the arrival of RCP
Recently he was also seen in a public program in which the former Chief Minister participated. Despite this, the JDU leadership has so far rejected the possibility of his return. However, this latest meeting has given rise to new speculations. At present, neither JDU nor RCP Singh has made any formal announcement regarding the withdrawal. Nevertheless, this meeting has definitely made it clear that RCP Singh’s chapter in Bihar politics is not yet completely closed.
