Even after the change of power in Tamil Nadu, political conflict continues there. The war of words continues between TVK and DMK, which came to power for the first time. Meanwhile, MDMK chief Vaiko said he would stand as a “shield” to protect Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay from political attacks by opposition parties. He targeted DMK that it is not able to digest the defeat in the elections.
He accused Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of continuously targeting him because of his support to the ruling TVK government. Vaiko had come to Tiruppur district on Monday to participate in the program of removal of ‘Karuvelam’ trees.
Government ended commission-cutting culture
“MDMK will act as a shield and shield to stop the arrows coming from the opposition against this government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay,” Vaiko said at the Coimbatore airport.
Praising the Vijay-led TVK government, Vaiko claimed that the government has taken many effective steps to end corruption. He praised the current government’s efforts to end the culture of “commission, cutting and corruption” and described it as a “Himalayan achievement”.
He said, “The government has eliminated the culture of commission and bribery from the state. Eliminating corruption is the biggest achievement of the TVK government.”
Why did you leave DMK during elections?
Vaiko alleged that the DMK was unable to accept being out of power in Tamil Nadu and claimed that he was being continuously targeted for supporting the TVK government.
Vaiko elaborated on his party MDMK’s separation from the DMK alliance, citing “disrespectful behavior and arbitrariness” during seat-sharing talks during the Tamil Nadu elections. Vaiko’s party MDMK had decided to break ties with the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, accusing its long-time ally DMK of allegedly trying to support the AIADMK government.
Mekedatu Dam threat to Tamil Nadu
Referring to the Mekedatu Dam Project, Vaiko alleged that the central government was “pushing Karnataka for this project”. He claimed that Karnataka’s proposed project is a threat to the existence of Tamil Nadu. It will pose a threat to Tamil Nadu and called upon the people to unite and protest against the project.
He also said that the proposed dam will stop the flow of water into Mettur Dam and Kollidam River, depriving about 25 districts of drinking water and turning the fertile Chola Mandal region into desert.
Talking about the resignation of the Education Minister, MDMK chief Vaiko also demanded that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should resign over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) examination. Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, Vaiko said briefly, “I fully support that demand. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should immediately submit his resignation.”
