Will Mujtaba not attend Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral, what is there to fear?

July 2, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will not attend his father’s funeral. This information has come out quoting Ayatollah Hakim Elahi, representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader. According to the representative of the Supreme Leader, this decision has been taken due to security reasons. The Al Jazeera report claims that Iranian security agencies fear an Israeli attack and have advised Mujtaba to stay away from the funeral ceremony.

However, no further official information has been given in this matter yet. According to Al Jazeera’s report, Ayatollah Hakim Elahi, representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader, said that this decision has been taken from security point of view. Because even though a peace agreement has been signed with America, there is still a feeling of deep distrust between the two sides. At the same time, tension still remains with Israel. Elahi said that apart from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, people from all over Iran and the world are expected to participate in this program. Strict security arrangements have been made in Iran regarding this.

Strict security arrangements from ground to sky

Iranian army spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Akarminiya has announced strict security measures. The security of the country’s land borders has been greatly strengthened by the deployment of additional army troops. The Air Defense Force will constantly keep an eye on the country’s airspace and will exercise special control over all foreign flights. The army is mobilizing all its resources to conduct the last rites in a grand and dignified manner.

Minister of State for External Affairs and Governor of Bihar will go to Iran

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will be laid to rest on July 9 in Mashhad city. The funeral process will start from July 4. On behalf of the Government of India, Minister of State for External Affairs Pavitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain will attend the funeral. According to the Foreign Ministry, both the leaders will leave for Iran on July 3.

Ayatollah was killed and Mujtaba was injured in the attack.

Let us tell you that on February 28, the then Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Khamenei was killed in a missile attack by America and Israel. His son and current Supreme Leader Mujtaba Khamenei was also seriously injured in this attack. He has not been seen in public since then. Israeli and American intelligence agencies have repeatedly claimed that Mujtaba’s health is very poor, and that is why he has not appeared in public. Now that the situation has become normal, it was expected that Mujtaba might come forward. However, these claims have now been rejected.
