Alliance On Prime Video: OTT platform Amazon Prime Video is going to do something for the first time in India which no streaming app has done till now. Prime Video is coming with its first ‘daily reality show’, named Alliance. This show, which will start from June 26, will be hosted by Bollywood actor and director Kunal Khemu.
The format of this 42 episode game show is of the Dutch origin reality show, which has been prepared for India by Banijay Asia. 16 contestants will enter the show in pairs, but only one will win. Discussions are intense regarding the concept of this show, which will be streamed on OTT from June 26.
Those 5 things that can work in favor of the show,
- Kunal Khemu’s fresh and versatile style
Kunal Khemu His comic timing and screen presence is amazing. His graph has changed after the direction of ‘Madgaon Express’. Unlike the angry-young man style of Salman Khan (Bigg Boss) or Rohit Shetty (Khatron Ke Khiladi), Kunal’s wit and friendly nature can give a new hook to the audience.

- afternoon time slot
Usually shows on OTT come once or twice a week or on weekends, or every day at night. But ‘Alliance’ will come every day at 12 noon. The audience may get into the habit of watching dramas every day at lunch time, which will prove to be the biggest USP of this show.
- International format flavor
This show is based on the Dutch format of John de Mol, the makers of this show have created iconic shows like ‘Bigg Boss’ (Big Brother) and ‘The Voice’. This means that the level of planning and tasks of the show is going to be very grand and cinematic, which will be completely new for the Indian audience.
- Dangerous theme of ‘No Permanent Alliance’
The theme of the show is that ‘friend is the biggest enemy’. Contestants will come in pairs, but to move ahead only the partner will have to cheat. This concept of ‘backstabbing’ is very much liked by today’s youth.
- Platform like Amazon Prime
An OTT platform like Amazon Prime Video will leave no stone unturned in promoting this show, due to which the show will get initial viewership very easily.
The show may go haywire on these 5 fronts
If we look at the history of Indian reality shows, there are some shortcomings in this concept which can disappoint the audience.
- ‘Overdose’ like Roadies and Splitsvilla
Formation of pairs, cheating and tasks – the Indian audience has been watching all this in ‘MTV Roadies’ and ‘Splitsvilla’ for years. If something completely new does not happen in ‘Alliance’, it will remain just another ‘MTV style’ show.
- Risk of ‘Daily Show’ on OTT
People like to binge-watch (watch all the episodes together) on OTTs like Amazon during weekends. Whether watching an episode every day will suit the routine of OTT’s regular audience or not is a big question.
- lack of loud hosting
Indian audience in reality show salman khan Or like a host who creates loud and drama like Karan Johar. Kunal Khemu is calm and well mannered by nature. Will he be able to impart class to the contestants in the way the audience expects? This will be interesting to see.
- Drama may fade away without ‘live feed’
Like ‘Bigg Boss’, if the show does not have a 24-hour live feed, then the audience will not be able to get the real and raw drama that they have got used to, only in edited episodes.
- Audience may get confused due to heavy ‘Strategy’
There is a lot of mind games in the Dutch formats of this show. The mass audience in India likes reality shows with straightforward fights, gossip and love. If the show becomes too complex or mental, the audience will not be able to connect with it.
Will Prime Video be able to repeat the success of ‘The Traitors’?
Prime Video has previously made a lot of headlines with ‘The Traitors India’ and Kajol-Twinkle’s unscripted shows. Nikhil Madhok, Head of Originals, Prime Video India, and Deepak Dhar, Banijay Asia, are very confident about the show. But the real decision will be taken on June 26, when this ‘Alliance’ will break and join in front of the audience.
