July 2, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The hearing in the case of sexual exploitation allegations against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been completed. After this, Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi has reserved its decision. The court will give its verdict on August 3. Along with this, the court has directed both the parties to submit written arguments within 2 weeks. Judge Ashwini Panwar says that the order of conviction or acquittal will be pronounced on August 3.

Former Bharatiya Janata Party MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been accused of sexual harassment by female wrestlers. In this case, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Rouse Avenue Court Ashwini Panwar heard the arguments of senior advocate Rebecca John on behalf of the women wrestlers and advocate Rajiv Mohan on behalf of Brij Bhushan and the government lawyer on behalf of the Delhi government.

6 female wrestlers had made allegations

This case is related to the allegations of sexual harassment made by 6 female wrestlers against Brij Bhushan Singh. On his complaints, the police had registered an FIR against Brij Bhushan. On June 15, 2023, the police had filed a charge sheet against Singh under IPC sections 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 354A (comments of sexual nature), 354D (stalking) and 506(1) (criminal intimidation).

The trial court had framed charges on May 10, 2024.

Then on May 10, 2024, the trial court had framed charges against Singh for harassing 5 female wrestlers. It was held that there was sufficient evidence on record to frame charges against Singh for offenses under sections 354 and 354A of the IPC. The court also said that there was enough evidence to frame charges against Singh under section 506(1) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC in relation to the two wrestlers.

The minor wrestler had withdrawn the complaint

The court also framed charges of criminal intimidation against co-accused Vinod Tomar, assistant secretary of WFI in this case, for threatening one of the victims. At the same time, a minor wrestler had also made allegations against Singh. However, he later withdrew his complaint. Delhi Police filed a cancellation report in that case under the POCSO Act, after which the case was closed.
