Amir Jangoo And Roston Chase vs Sri Lanka: On the third day of the first Test match being played between West Indies and Sri Lanka at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, West Indies batsmen created history. In response to Sri Lanka’s 308 runs in the first innings, West Indies batted brilliantly and declared its first innings at a huge score of 626 runs for 9 wickets. The real heroes of this huge lead and mountain-like score of host West Indies were young batsman Aamir Jangu and captain Roston Chase. Together, these two wreaked such havoc on the field that the Sri Lankan bowlers were seen yearning for wickets the whole day.
Jangu’s explosion in the second test of his career
28-year-old left-handed batsman Aamir Jangu, who suddenly got a chance in the team due to Shai Hope’s injury, took advantage of this opportunity in a way that will always be remembered in the history of cricket. Jangu, playing only the second match of his Test career, blasted the Sri Lankan bowlers and scored a brilliant double century. Facing 373 balls, he played a historic marathon inning of 233 runs with the help of 19 fours and 3 sixes. With this, he became the third West Indies cricketer after great legends like Brian Lara and Chris Gayle to score a double century in a Test against Sri Lanka.
Roston Chase missed double century
At one time the West Indies team had lost its 5 wickets for just 168 runs. From there, captain Roston Chase along with Aamir Jangu not only handled the innings but also gave the team an unassailable lead. Captain Chase led from the front and scored his sixth Test century after 7 years. However, he missed his first double century by just 6 runs and was out after scoring 194 runs, after which West Indies declared the innings.
World record partnership for the sixth wicket
The pair of Aamir Jangu and Roston Chase set foot on the field and completely pushed Sri Lanka on the backfoot. Both of them made a record-breaking partnership of 401 runs for the sixth wicket. This is the second highest partnership in Test cricket in the history of West Indies cricket. Earlier in the year 1958, Gary Sobers and Conrad Hunt had made a historic partnership of 446 runs for the second wicket against Pakistan. At the same time, this is the biggest partnership for the sixth wicket in the history of Test cricket. He broke the record of Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow’s partnership of 399 runs against South Africa in 2016.
