Recently, a meeting was held in Delhi between a delegation of Naga MLAs from Manipur led by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in which Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh was not present. The Manipur unit of Congress has raised questions on this issue. The party has asked why the CM was not a part of this meeting.
Manipur Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K. Meghchandra Singh on Saturday claimed that the recent meeting of the state’s Naga MLAs with Union Home Minister Amit Shah has weakened the authority of the Manipur Chief Minister’s office, as Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and others were also present in it. While holding a press conference in Imphal on Saturday (June 28), Kesham Meghchandra Singh described this meeting as unprecedented. He said that this has raised serious political questions about the functioning of the BJP-led government in Manipur.
‘How can a meeting be held without the CM’
He questioned that how can a meeting between the Naga MLAs of Manipur and the Union Home Minister be organized in the absence of the Chief Minister of Manipur? He alleged that this boycott has hurt the dignity and authority of the post of Chief Minister.
‘There is no trust in the current BJP Chief Minister’
Along with this, Kesham Meghchandra Singh also raised questions on the participation of Deputy Chief Minister Losi Dikho who was included in the delegation. He said this reflected political uneasiness within the ruling coalition. The Congress leader alleged that this meeting shows that Deputy CM Losi Dikho and Naga MLAs do not have confidence in the current BJP Chief Minister of Manipur.
The Congress leader said that issues related to Manipur should be discussed with the active participation of the elected leadership of the state. He questioned why Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was leading the delegation instead of Manipur Chief Minister. Meghchandra demanded the BJP government to explain why the elected leadership of the state was not kept collectively during the discussion with the Home Minister on matters related to Manipur.
Told the Chief Minister as a paper lion
Meghchandra criticized the government in the matter of governance and accused it of lack of transparency and collective responsibility. Taking aim at Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, he said that despite adequate security arrangements in the state, his presence in New Delhi raises questions on the priorities of the government. He said that the Deputy Chief Minister should rule the state. Working from Delhi reflects the lack of effective governance in Manipur. In the end, Congress leader Meghchandra described the Chief Minister as a paper tiger and alleged that he does not have the authority to lead the state government effectively.
The meeting was held on Wednesday
According to officials, Nagaland Chief Minister Rio and Deputy Chief Ministers Yanthungo Patton and T.R. Zeliang met Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday, during which he discussed issues related to security, development and inter-state relations with the Union Home Minister.
Congress question
Meghchandra Singh said that if matters related to Manipur were discussed, people may naturally ask why such talks were held without the leadership or direct participation of the (Manipur) Chief Minister. He said that Chief Minister Y. How could the meeting between the Naga MLAs of Manipur and the Union Home Minister have taken place without the presence of Khemchand Singh?
