Why Not Count Rotis in Kitchen: Do you also make rotis by counting? Poverty will prevail in the house

July 7, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Kitchen Rules: Kitchen is considered a sacred place in Sanatan Dharma. This is not only a place for cooking but also the center of family happiness. Here, special care is taken to everything from cleanliness, so that Mother Annapurna does not get angry. Not only this, you must have often heard the elders in the house saying that one should not count rotis in the kitchen. Some people avoid it considering it as old thinking or superstition, but some people still follow it with full awareness and discipline.

The prohibition of making bread by counting is not based on Vastu Shastra. There is a deep practical and health related logic hidden behind this. Let us know what impact making bread by counting has on your health, relationships and prosperity of your home?

According to Vastu Shastra, when we count and cook bread, we unknowingly limit the blessings of our home. Food is considered a form of Mother Annapurna and measuring or counting it is considered an insult to food.

Rahu’s fault is felt by counting rotis.

Cooking is considered to be the place of Mars. It is believed that counting rotis increases the negative effect of Rahu in the horoscope, which increases mental stress and unnecessary expenses in the house. It is believed in Sanatan tradition that guests are considered like gods. If roti is made in a hurry and suddenly a guest arrives, then he cannot be welcomed respectfully. Due to this the planets Mercury and Jupiter become weak.

How much roti should be made according to Vaastu? The first roti should always be made for the cow, this removes all the Vaastu defects of the house and receives the blessings of the ancestors. The last piece of bread should always be made for dogs, this keeps Rahu, Ketu and Saturn calm. Always make 2-3 extra rotis so that no hungry creature, bird or unexpected guest returns empty handed.
