Why is Smriti Irani’s name not in the voter list of Panchayat elections? SDM told

June 12, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The matter of former Union Minister Smriti Irani’s name not being in the voter list of Panchayat elections in Amethi has become a topic of discussion in political and administrative circles. Meanwhile, Gauriganj Sub-District Magistrate Preeti Tiwari has clarified the situation by giving clarification on the entire matter. He has said that a letter has been received to add the name under the process and the name will be added once the process is completed. After the administration’s clarification, the village head has submitted a letter to the election officials to include Smriti Irani’s name in the Panchayat voter list.

Gauriganj Sub-District Magistrate Preeti Tiwari has clarified that Smriti Irani’s name was not even registered in the voter list of the last Panchayat elections. According to the Sub-District Magistrate, even during the revision of the Panchayat voter list in 2026, no application was received from Smriti Irani for registering her name. In such a situation, the question of deletion of name does not arise because his name was not already present in the Panchayat voter list.

What did the village head of Medan Mawai village say?

He said that as per the rules, after receiving the application, the name will be added after completing the process of adding the name to the Panchayat voter list. Smriti Irani’s name is registered in the Assembly and Lok Sabha voter list. She is a voter of Gauriganj assembly constituency. After the administration’s clarification came to light, village head Babita Mishra of Medan Mawai village has given a letter to the Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officer demanding inclusion of Smriti Irani’s name in the Panchayat voter list.

Voter list for Panchayat elections is different

The village head says that Smriti Irani is a voter of our village and her name should be added. On the other hand, the Deputy District Magistrate said that the list for Panchayat elections is different. The lists of Lok Sabha and Assembly have no meaning. In the last five-yearly Panchayat elections, Smriti was not a voter here and no application was given, so when her name is not there then the question of exclusion does not arise.
