Why is Akhilesh asking those contesting elections to leave the organization? Now resignations also started coming

May 28, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The 2027 election is a ‘do or die’ election for the Samajwadi Party. The SP chief is in no mood to take any political risk. Akhilesh Yadav’s latest decision is at least pointing in this direction. Samajwadi Party has now issued an order for the leaders associated with the organization to resign from the organization if they want to contest elections. Following this, leaders like Ribu Srivastava, Munindra Shukla and Bareilly SP President Shivcharan Kashyap have also resigned from the organization to contest the elections. In this way, Muzaffarpur District President Zia Chaudhary has expressed his desire to contest the elections along with Akhilesh Yadav and has offered to resign.

However, no one from the party is refraining from speaking openly on this decision. But SP sources claim that Akhilesh Yadav With this decision the organization will remain strong. Because if the leaders contest elections while remaining in the organization then the organization in the district will be weak.

The second thing is that factionalism will increase in the organization due to its claim and due to this the organization will face dissatisfaction both in the district and the state. In such a situation, to keep the organization strong and maintain better coordination in it, it is necessary that those contesting elections resign from the organization.

Resignation of SP leaders after the decree

Munindra Shukla, who is claiming ticket from Bithoor, has been in charge of the rural district for 18 years, but when he had to contest elections, he first resigned from the post of District President.

Reebu Srivastava, who was the state president of Samajwadi Mahila Sabha, also left her post. She has to contest elections from Varanasi Cantt. At present she has been made in-charge of this assembly. Bareilly District President Shivcharan Kashyap is preparing to resign from Bareilly’s Bithri Chainpur Assembly, although there is a big controversy behind his resignation.

Muzaffarnagar District President Zia Chaudhary also expressed her desire to contest the elections by offering to the SP chief to resign from the post of president to contest the elections from Meerapur. In the coming days, many more leaders from SP state to district organization can be seen resigning and preparing for the assembly elections.

Akhilesh had also experimented in Lok Sabha elections

However, Akhilesh Yadav had done a similar small experiment in the Lok Sabha elections also. Naresh Uttam Patel got the resignation of the State President and contested the Lok Sabha elections and Naresh Uttam Patel became MP from Fatehpur. In that election, the entire organization of Samajwadi Party was trying its best to make Naresh Uttam Patel win. Akhilesh is bringing that electoral model of Fatehpur to the assembly elections on a large scale.

A few days ago, Akhilesh Yadav had held a meeting regarding the preparations for the assembly elections. All the big and important leaders of the party were present in the meeting. In that meeting, Akhilesh Yadav had warned the district presidents of SP and said that they should not take the contract of giving ticket to anyone, if any complaint is received then action will be taken against them. He had also said that if any District President is willing to contest the elections, he should first resign from the post of President and then tell about his intentions. Such cases will be considered. Since then, activism within the party has increased rapidly.

SP sources claim that no one is of the age to contest elections while holding the post of Samajwadi Party organization. However, if you claim your ticket while being in the organization, then there will be tension with the district leaders. In such a situation, there will be fragmentation among the voters at the time of elections, which can prove to be harmful for the party. In the 2022 elections, SP has lost many such seats by very small margins. If everything goes well in the organization, then SP can win those seats. If there is factionalism in the party, it may lose many seats. SP’s focus is that if there is no factionalism in the organization, then SP can return to power in 2027.

Know the reason for Akhilesh’s instructions

Senior journalist and political analyst Rajendra Kumar, while talking to TV 9 Digital, said that Akhilesh Yadav has taken this decision by taking lessons from the previous elections. The Samajwadi Party will benefit from this but will it end the dissatisfaction? It is not like that either. If the District President or any other leader in the organization has made up his mind to contest the elections, he will definitely contest. Even if you don’t give him the ticket, he will consider other options, but will fight. There is also a danger in this that if someone leaves the post of District President and contests elections and loses, then he leaves both the places.

But the party will definitely benefit from this strategy of Akhilesh Yadav. Most of the District Presidents are busy in calculations regarding the chances of getting tickets. They are busy in setting up the leaders from the local MP to the State Executive. This decision will rein in such leaders. The second major reason for this decision, which I feel is to send a message to the Congress. Samajwadi Party wants to give this message to Congress that our preparations have started and we are serious about each seat. In future, even if there is an alliance between Congress and SP, then the effect of this decision of Akhilesh Yadav will be visible on that alliance also.

SP eyes 2027 elections

There is a difference of only five lakh votes between Samajwadi Party and BJP. And Akhilesh Yadav knows that if the internal strife in the organization stops and he goes to the 2027 elections with better coordination, then the Samajwadi Party can repeat the success of 2024 in UP.

Overall, SP has made its agenda clear for the preparation of 2027. Those who are officials in the party and organization and also want to contest elections. He will have to resign first. After that we will have to go to the assembly and make preparations. Then the ticket will be considered. Seeing the situation, some officials have started preparations in the assembly. It is believed that this time Akhilesh Yadav does not want any confusion regarding ticket distribution. Only the better candidate should get the ticket. It has also been decided to ensure that there are no two posts simultaneously.
