Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi held a press conference at Indira Bhawan on Wednesday. During this, Rahul told why he had protested at the Prime Minister’s residence. Rahul said that before the dharna at the PM residence, opposition leaders had met Speaker Om Birla in his office.
He conveyed his demands to the Speaker, emphasizing that these were serious matters and he should be allowed to speak in Parliament. Rahul Gandhi said that when he raised these questions, Speaker Om Birla said that he would talk to the government. In a way, the speaker did not pay any attention to their concerns. As a result, the opposition decided to hold a protest near the Prime Minister’s residence. Rahul Gandhi said that he took to the streets to wake up the government because the pain of the students was not being understood.
Rahul showed video of lathi charge on students
Earlier, Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi started the press conference by showing a video in which the police was seen lathi-charging the students. After this he targeted the government and raised many questions. He said that when students across the country are putting forth their demands peacefully, they are being treated as if they have committed a crime.
Students demanding fair education system
Rahul Gandhi said that students are just demanding a fair education system, which is their right. He alleged that many students are under constant stress and due to incidents like paper leak, some students have even committed suicide. According to him, instead of listening to the students, they are getting only disappointment. Rahul said that students are the future of the country and the government is treating them like terrorists.
Paper leaked 152 times in last 10 years
Rahul Gandhi said that India’s education system was once counted among the best systems in the world, but the current government has badly damaged it. He claimed that papers have been leaked 152 times in the last 10 years. That means on an average the paper was leaked once every month. He told that every time this happens, lakhs of students have to prepare for the exam again and suffer the same mental stress.
7.5 crore students and their families affected
Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government is not taking the problems of the students seriously. He said that about 7.5 crore students and their families have been affected by these incidents, a large number of whom are from middle class and poor families. Rahul said that he has full support for the students. They have three demands from the government, the first of which is the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The second demand is that action should be taken against those who lathi-charged the students. The third demand is that PM Modi should apologize to the students regarding this entire matter.
