Controversy has arisen in Maharashtra after the video of the speech given by the new Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil at the Sakal Hindu Samaj program went viral. Congress has alleged that he has accused RSS and its founder Dr. K.B. Praising Hedgewar has broken All India Services conduct rules. The party has questioned Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis whether the officer had taken permission to participate in the program.
Citing All India Services (Conduct) Rules, Congress claimed that an IPS officer has to obtain approval from the government before participating in such an event. Congress wants to know through the question whether Nangre Patil had taken such permission and if not, will the government take action against him?
‘Officials should remain politically neutral’
The party said that the IPS officer who is a supporter of RSS, Hindutva and RSS founder K.B. Praises Hedgewar, his speech is against government rules. The rules of government officers (All India Services) say that they should remain politically neutral and behave according to their post. Under these rules, officers are prohibited from joining any political or ideological organization. The party asked whether going on the platform of an organization like RSS and praising it and its founder is also not a violation of these rules?
Congress said that this issue is not limited to just one officer, but it is related to the credibility of civil services, the constitutional principle of political impartiality and public trust in the police administration. In another post, the opposition party said the job of the police is to maintain law and order and not to glorify organizations that promote social division.
