Obsession and Backrooms Director: Two Hollywood horror films are most talked about these days – one is Obsession and the other is Backrooms. The special thing is that on the basis of their content, both the films have done well at the box office beyond expectations. No one expected these two films made in low budget to earn as much as they did at the box office. Obsession is a psychological horror film, while Backrooms is based on the famous urban-legend concept of the internet. Both the films have proved that the horror genre still has the power to draw the audience to the theater and films can become blockbusters even without big stars. The interesting thing is that the person behind making ‘Obsession’ and ‘Backrooms’ a hit is not a famous director but is very young. At the very beginning of his career, his horror films changed the horror game of Hollywood.
The excitement of ‘Obsession’, which was released on May 15, had not yet subsided among the people that on May 29, another horror film ‘Backrooms’ also came, which created a blast as soon as it came. These films have left behind big horror movies in terms of earnings. ‘Obsession’ is directed by Cary Barker and ‘Backrooms’ is directed by Ken Parsons. Both Gen Z directors have changed the trends of Hollywood.
Carrie Barker’s hand behind Obsession
26 year old director Cary Barker is the brain behind Obsession. Barker has made his own identity in Hollywood at an early age. He has earlier shown his creativity through digital content and short films. ‘Obsession’ is considered to be his biggest achievement, which has included him in the list of emerging horror directors of Hollywood. Carey has created a distinct identity for herself across the world with her first feature film ‘Obsession’. Along with directing the film ‘Obsession’, he has also written its story and done the editing himself. Before stepping into film direction, Carey used to make sketch videos on a comedy channel on YouTube named ‘that’s a bad idea’. The name of his last popular short project was “Milk and Cereal”.

Ken Parsons’ hand behind the backrooms

Ken Parsons started a horror video series named ‘The Backrooms’ on his YouTube channel in 2022, which garnered millions of views. Based on this viral series, A24 Studio made the film ‘Backrooms’. After release, the film achieved record-breaking opening and Ken Parsons became the youngest director whose film reached number 1 at the box office.
