Senior IAS officer Neelam Meena was appointed the new Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal on Monday. recently After the change of power in the state, Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Aggarwal was appointed Chief Secretary by the Shubhendu Adhikari government. Since then the post of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) was vacant.
Manoj Kumar Aggarwal He was an IAS officer of 1990 batch. During his tenure the SIR process was completed in the state. He also played an important role in conducting elections and after the changes in the state, he was given the responsibility of the biggest bureaucrat in the state administration.
In a letter to the state Chief Secretary, the Election Commission said that Neelam Meena, a 1998 batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre, is being appointed as the CEO.
Experience of working in many important positions
It was said that Neelam Meena will not hold any additional charge of the state government while holding the post of Chief Electoral Officer. Neelam Meena was the Principal Secretary of the State Consumer Protection Department.
The West Bengal government had sent a panel of three senior IAS officers to the Election Commission for the selection of the next Chief Electoral Officer of the state. Officials said that the nominees included Neelam Meena, Tanmay Chakraborty and Moumita Godara Basu.
IAS officer hails from Rajasthan
Neelam Meena, resident of Rajasthan, has received education in Botany and History. She has held different positions for more than 28 years. In his long administrative career, he has successfully held many important administrative posts in West Bengal. She was also the director of the Institute of Environmental Studies and Wetland Management.
