In Punjab, on Monday, June 29, all the Sikh MLAs appeared before Sri Akal Takht Sahib. During this, Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj directly asked the ministers and MLAs of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, whether you had read it thoroughly before giving your consent to the Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act in the Punjab Assembly? On this question, most of the MLAs and ministers said that the draft of this bill was presented to them some time before coming to the House, hence they could not read it.
Sri Akal Takht Sahib was also informed by the Congress MLAs that they had raised this issue in the House. He received the draft just a few hours before coming to the House due to which he could not read it properly. Sri Akal Takht Sahib has now ordered the Punjab Government to include the objections of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee by amending this law within a month and till then this law should be put on hold. On behalf of the Punjab Government, Shri Akal Takht Sahib has been assured that in the next one month, the Punjab Government will take a concrete decision after considering all those objections.
Akal Takht’s objections regarding the law
Akal Takht Sahib’s objections have been lodged regarding the sacrilege law. Jathedar said that our objection is that in the law instead of Beed it says Swaroop. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is called Beed. Form is also our word. The Assembly has tried to change the Sikh terminology. The Assembly has no right to decide Sikh terminology. There would be no objection if we say Swaroop along with Beed.
Custodian item should be removed
Custodian means caretaker. To whom Guru Granth Sahib has been given. It is not your right to decide the custodian term. This is the right of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. This sect will decide whom to give form to and who not to. The item containing custodian should be removed.
Objection on unique number
Make a register for the formats, it is already there. There is objection to giving a unique number to Guru Granth Sahib. It is written in the Sikh Rehita Maryada that the Gurmata assembly does not do it, the sect does. You can send suggestions for unique numbers but cannot place orders. Only the sect can take this decision. Here the government went technically wrong. It has been said that releasing the record of Sri Guru Granth Sahib on the website is not acceptable.
Objection to fixing custodian’s duties
There is objection to fixing the duties and responsibilities of the custodian. It will be the responsibility of the custodian to protect it. The Assembly will not decide how Guru Granth Sahib is to be kept. It is the sect’s right to decide this, it is not your right. You can suggest that Akal Takht should do this.
objection to punishment
The government has the right to punish those who commit sacrilege. But what is written in the law, apart from sacrilege, what else is written in it and for whom is it, it should be made clear. Akal Takht has objection on the item of punishment to the custodian.
Why not mention the accident situation?
In this the government did not write that if any accident happens then Guru Granth Sahib will not become case property. Remove the objections raised within a month. This order has been issued by Akal Takht Sahib.
