The process of bidding farewell to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has started on Friday morning. Khamenei’s mortal remains were brought to the Grand Mosallah in Tehran in the morning. It is here that leaders from all over the world are becoming a part of his last journey. Iran’s Mehr News Agency has claimed that guests from more than 100 countries are reaching Tehran. Representatives of the Government of India have also gone to participate in this program.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was invited by Iran to attend Khamenei’s last journey. PM Modi himself is not going. Rather, Bihar Governor Saiya Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita have been sent by the Government of India. Apart from the Government of India, Bharatiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin was also invited, but there is no news of his departure.
Did Congress leaders go to Iran?
Apart from the government and BJP, leaders of other political parties of India have also received invitation from Iran. Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge was also invited but he is not going. Among Congress leaders, Pawan Kheda and former Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid have also received invitation. Salman Khurshid has participated in this program on behalf of Congress. Salman Khurshid told that he is going to Iran as a representative of Congress Party and Congress President Kharge and Iran has been informed about this.
Kashmir leaders are also going to Iran
Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti has also received an invitation from Iran. She has gone to attend Khamenei’s funeral program. Pictures of Salman Khurshid and Mehbooba Mufti have also come. Both the leaders are seen standing in front of Khamenei’s coffin.
Apart from Mehbooba Mufti, Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman-A Sharia Shia President Agha Syed Hasan Mosavi Al Safavi has also received the invitation. However, it is being told that he has not been allowed to go to Iran. Anjuman spokesperson has said that Agha Syed Hasan was to go to Iran from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport but the Immigration Department stopped him at the airport itself. It is claimed that his passport was confiscated.
Has Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi gone or not?
Former Union Minister and BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has also been called to pay his last respects to Khamenei. Naqvi is not only a prominent leader of India, but he himself comes from the Shia community. Naqvi met representatives of Iran in Delhi to express grief over Khamenei’s death. There is no clarity yet on whether Naqvi will go or not.
Indian religious leaders arrived
Apart from Indian government representatives and politicians, a delegation of religious leaders has also reached Iran. Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christian religious leaders were seen in a line praying and praying for Khamenei.

Which countries are participating?
Iran also wants to show its strength through the funeral of its biggest leader. Leaders from all the countries of the world have been called, who have also reached here.
- Representatives of Russia, China, Pakistan, Georgia and Cuba have reached Iran. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Asif Munir and Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi have also visited Iran.
- Apart from these, the Prime Minister of Armenia, President of Iraq Nizar Amidi, Speaker of the Parliament of Uzbekistan Nuruddin, President of Tajikistan, President of Iraqi Kurdistan have arrived.
- The Speaker of Qatar Shura Council and the President of Georgia have also arrived.
- Apart from these, the family of Lebanese leader Nasrallah, all the leaders of the resistance front in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Morocco and Turkey also participated in the last farewell of Khamenei.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has not invited European countries that supported Israel and America’s military action against Iran. Apart from Europe, there is no official information yet regarding the departure of representatives from GCC countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait.
When will Khamenei be laid to rest?
On the night of July 2, Khamenei’s body was taken to the place where he lived and he was attacked. After this, the body was kept in Mosalla of Tehran on Friday morning. On July 3, foreign guests will pay tribute to Khamenei throughout the day. On July 4-5, the general public will get a chance to bid farewell to their leader. A procession will be taken out in Tehran on 6 July. The funeral procession will be taken out on July 7 at the Center of Shia Islamic Scholarship in Qom. On July 8, the body will be kept for the general public in Karbala and Najaf of Iraq. On July 9, Khamenei will be buried in Mashhad, Iran, where he was born.
When and how was Khamenei killed?
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei died on 28 February 2026. America and Israel jointly attacked Iran in which he was killed. Apart from Khamenei, his daughter and son-in-law, daughter-in-law and 3-year-old granddaughter were also killed in this attack. Since then his body has been kept safe because there was a war going on between Iran and America. Now an agreement has been reached between the two countries. However, tension still continues. The deal has been signed but not finalized. Iran’s military reiterated on Friday that Khamenei’s death will be avenged.
