The period of crisis is not ending for Trinamool Congress (TMC). One by one MPs from TMC, which ruled West Bengal for 15 consecutive years, are rebelling. After the MLAs and Rajya Sabha MPs, now the Lok Sabha MPs have also come out in open rebellion. According to sources, 19 out of 20 MPs who broke away from TMC had sent a proposal to form a separate faction to the Lok Sabha Speaker’s office on May 18 itself.
The special thing is that 3 Muslim MPs are also included in the group of rebel MPs. These three Muslim MPs coming from Bengal also seem ready to support the Bharatiya Janata Party. These rebel Muslim MPs include the names of cricketer-turned-politician Yusuf Pathan (Bahrampur) as well as Khalilur Rehman (Jangipur) and Abu Tahir Khan (Murshidabad).
MPs other than 3 Muslim MPs
Apart from the three Muslim MPs who sent the letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker’s office, the names of Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Shatabdi Roy, Bapi Halder, Dr. Sharmila Sarkar, Prasun Bandyopadhyay, Jagdish Burma Basunia, Asit Kumar Mal, Arup Chakraborty, Rachna Banerjee, Sayoni Ghosh, Mithali Bagh, Mala Roy, Kalipad Soren, Deepak Adhikari, June Maliya and Parth Bhowmik are included.
According to sources, there is a list of 19 out of 20 MPs who have separated from TMC, who had sent their names to the Lok Sabha Speaker’s office on May 18. In this letter Kakoli Ghosh was the Chief Whip of TMC. But on May 20, TMC wrote another letter to the Speaker saying that Kalyan Banerjee was being made the Chief Whip in place of Kakoli.
Mamta’s 3 wickets fell from Rajya Sabha
Before this, Mamata Banerjee led TMC suffered three major setbacks from Rajya Sabha. 3 MPs have resigned from Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik resigned from the membership of the Parliament Upper House yesterday on Thursday. He is the third MP from the party to resign this week.
Baraik met Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan and submitted his resignation. Resignations from party MPs started on Monday when Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Rai resigned. Later, citing differences with the Trinamool leadership, he also announced to leave the party.
A day after Rai’s resignation, on Wednesday, another Rajya Sabha member Sushmita Dev also resigned from both Parliament and the party. After the defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections last month, the sounds of rebellion within the party are increasing.
Last week, more than two-thirds of the party’s MLAs (58 out of 80) broke away from Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress Legislature Party and gained recognition as the main opposition group in the Assembly under the leadership of expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee. The rebel group is claiming that its numbers have increased further since then. After the MLAs, the voices of rebellion reached the Parliament.
