Who are those 3 University Vice Chancellors who went to Mohan Bhagwat’s program, surrounded by both the party and the opposition in Kerala

June 15, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Politics in the state has intensified due to the incident of three Vice Chancellors of Kerala attending a program organized by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). While Chief Minister VD Satheesan strongly condemned the three Vice-Chancellors for attending the program, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the Congress-led UDF of indulging in appeasement politics.

Chief Minister Satheesan criticized the participation of three Vice Chancellors in the RSS program on Sunday and demanded an apology from them. He said through a Facebook post that the participation of Vice Chancellors in this program was not in keeping with the dignity of their post. And this is also against the educational traditions of Kerala.

Vice Chancellors made serious mistakes: CM Satheesan

Expressing his displeasure, he said, “The participation of three Vice Chancellors in the program addressed by Sangh Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat as part of the centenary celebrations of RSS is being viewed very seriously. The Vice Chancellors have committed this serious mistake. The society of Kerala respects the post of Vice Chancellor very much and their participation in the program of an RSS leader who propagates extreme communal ideas has reduced the dignity of this post.”

Vijayan targeted CM and IUML

At the same time, opposition leader and former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also expressed concern over the participation of Vice Chancellors in the program. He alleged that this reflects efforts to increase the influence of the Sangh Parivar in the field of higher education. He said, “Three vice-chancellors of universities in Kerala attended that event. This is a matter which secular Kerala takes very seriously.” He also strongly criticized the state Chief Minister, Congress and Indian Union Muslim League (IMUL) for this.

No right to preach to others: BJP

BJP also hit back at the criticism from opposition parties. BJP Kerala unit president Rajeev Chandrasekhar condemned Chief Minister Satheesan and accused the UDF government of indulging in appeasement politics. In one of his posts on social media, he said that the Chief Minister has no moral right to preach to others on secularism or constitutional values.

Who are these three Vice Chancellors of Kerala?

Chandrashekhar alleged, “The person who has normalized radical Islam and organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami and who is in power only with the support of Muslim League and Jamaat-e-Islami, should not talk about secularism or respect for the Constitution. It is not acceptable for a Chief Minister to criticize Vice Chancellors for attending a public program addressed by the RSS chief.

The BJP leader alleged that the UDF government is dependent on the support of organizations that support the politics of religion. Earlier, the Vice Chancellors of Kerala, MG and Malayalam Universities had participated in the centenary celebrations of RSS held on Saturday last week in Thiruvananthapuram, on which there was a lot of controversy.
