
Gagandeep Singh, an Indian-origin man in London, was sentenced to 34 years in prison on Friday. Gagan was found guilty of crimes of kidnapping, torture and rape. There was a court trial in February and he was found guilty on two counts of rape, illegal confinement, causing grievous hurt and kidnapping. This case went to court at Isleworth Crown Court. Due to all these cases, Gagandeep will now have to stay in jail for 28 years and in the six years in which he comes out, Gagan will be under strict surveillance. Parole can be considered only after spending at least 18 years in jail.
What was the matter?
The victim was a 24 year old girl. He was taken to a house in Hanwell area of West London and brutally tortured for a long time. In June 2024, the woman was asked to bring a suitcase from Thailand to the UK. When he refused, masked men at Birmingham Airport forced him into a car and took him to London. There Gagandeep Singh raped her twice.
She was beaten, stripped, whipped, burnt and even raped for more than a day. However, the victim was later released, but was threatened not to tell anything about this to anyone. The victim was very scared. Initially she was hesitant in telling everything to the police. Later, with the help of his mother and the police, the case moved forward.
‘The woman showed bravery during the investigation’
Detective Constable Sitara Abdul, of the Metropolitan Police’s North West Rape and Serious Sexual Offenses Unit, said: “The torture that the victim faced in this case is unimaginable.” Sitara Abdul led the team in this investigation. He said, “He has shown great bravery by coming forward and helping us bring his attacker to justice. The kind of control that was placed on him left him fearing for his life.”
