A peace agreement has been reached between America and Iran. President Donald Trump says that both countries have reached the framework of a deal. Trump, who reached France for the G-7 summit, said that the deal has been signed digitally and the formal signing is to take place in Geneva on Friday. While most of the focus on the agreement is on the complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz, it has currently been opened partially. And it is said that it will be completely opened from Friday (June 19).
President Trump said on Monday that ships – many of them loaded with oil – are now passing through the Strait of Hormuz. This comes a day after a peace agreement was digitally signed between Iran and the US to end the 107-day war. Due to the outbreak of war, the most important sea route of the Middle East region (Strait of Hormuz) was blocked, now this route will be “fully opened” from Friday.
Hormuz partially opened: Trump
Starting bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of the G-7 summit in France, President Trump said on the opening of Hormuz, “I don’t think we will need much help to keep this passage open.” Whereas London and Paris had proposed a joint naval mission.
Trump said the sea route “has already been partially opened,” although he also said an investigation was underway to determine if there were any mines left. Praising the agreement with Iran, he said, “The most important thing is that Iran will no longer have any nuclear weapons.”
VP Vance will lead from America
After the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28, the day before the US-Israeli attack, President Trump said that Washington is building a “good” relationship with the new leadership in Tehran. He said, “The first group of leaders left, while the second group also left and now we found the third group very sensible. And we compromised with it.”
Will President Trump attend the meeting?
However, he did not clarify which leaders he was talking about. “I think a lot of good things are going to happen in the Middle East right now,” Trump said, adding that Vice President J.D. Vance would lead a delegation to the in-person signing of the US-Iran peace deal in Switzerland on Friday. But it was not told where this ceremony would take place.
On a question about his presence at the peace agreement signing ceremony, President Trump said, “I may attend it, or I may not.” He also did not tell who would be in the American delegation going for the signing ceremony.
