Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said the incident of alleged theft of offerings in the Ram temple of Ayodhya is extremely serious. He said that those involved in this cannot be forgiven and strictest action should be taken against the culprits.

Irregularities and scams came to light in 2021-22

Although the case of theft of temple offerings is in the headlines today, when the land was being acquired during the construction of Ram temple, there were also talks of irregularities and scams. In the year 2021-22, discussions about irregularities were in the headlines in local and national media. Aam Aadmi Party and Samajwadi Party had accused the Trust of buying low value lands at high prices. In this there was a case of purchase and sale of two lands.

The first case was of Bagh Bijaisi village of Ayodhya, where it was alleged that 1.208 hectares of land was purchased by persons named Sultan Ansari and Ravi Mohan Tiwari for Rs 2 crore. Just 5 to 10 minutes later, the same land was sold to the Ram Mandir Trust for Rs 18.5 crore. The question of the leaders was that how could the price of land increase by Rs 16.5 crore in just a few minutes. The second case was related to Deep Narayan, a relative of Ayodhya Mayor, who had purchased a land in February 2021 for Rs 20 lakh, which was sold to the trust in May 2021 for Rs 2.5 crore.

Scam from land acquisition to offering

However, the Trust had given clarification in both the cases, and had said that the deal of Rs 2 crore was based on the old agreement, while the price of the land purchased for Rs 18.5 crore was even less than the then market price. The entire payment was done through RTGS and the process was completely transparent. Overall, there have been allegations of scams in the construction of Ram temple, from land acquisition, during construction and now to the offerings, which are troubling the devotees of Ram Lala.
