Sonali was new at that time. She was not able to digest this and there was a feeling of anger and jealousy towards Tabu in her mind.

Every year my film was being chosen as the best film in the National Award list. But year after year I was feeling only disappointed. This was the time when I wanted a National Award at any cost. I was getting other awards. But that’s the thing, not the thing that you You don’t get the thing you want the most.”

Sonali was jealous of Tabu
Tabu received the National Award for the film Maachis. Because of this, Sonali was most jealous of Tabu. Regarding this she said- I was very jealous of Tabu. I used to talk to myself that she is from the industry and her relative Shabana Azmi has received 5 National Awards. I used to think that Tabu was also given the award because of this. But when I saw Maachis, I realized how smooth acting was by Tabu in it. After watching his acting, I relaxed and it helped me to get out of my insecurities and not slip into depression. After this I watched films like Astitva and Chandni Bar. Whenever I was watching any of his performances, my respect for him was increasing even more.
