
There has been a recent increase in the prices of Macbook and iPad, after which now such news is coming that Apple is now seeking approval from the Trump government to buy memory chips from a blacklisted (blacklisted in the US) Chinese company. This step has been taken by the company after the prices of many products increased, Apple says that due to the rising prices of memory and storage chips, there was no option left but to increase the prices.
Why did Apple need a Chinese company?
According to the Financial Times report, Apple Now the White House is seeking permission to procure memory chips from Chinese chipmaker CXMT. The company believes that with the availability of these chips, the economic pressure due to the ongoing memory shortage can be reduced and production can continue smoothly.
Company’s connection with PLA
The Financial Times, quoting six people with knowledge of the matter, has reported that Apple is trying to get approval to buy memory chips from CXMT. This company is currently included in the Pentagon’s blacklist of Chinese military companies because it is said to have connections with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). According to the report, Apple had approached the US Commerce Department about a month ago and since then has intensified its efforts to get approval from the Trump administration.
Apple is not legally prohibited from purchasing chips from CXMT or another Chinese memory company, YMTC, but the matter is not that simple. Both the companies are included in the Pentagon’s blacklist. Regarding these Chinese companies included in this list, the US government says that they have connections with the Chinese army. Due to national security regulations, American companies must obtain government approval before working with such suppliers.
