In February, a fierce conflict broke out between Afghanistan and Pakistan. On February 21, Pakistan carried out air strikes in Nangarhar, Paktika and Khost provinces of Afghanistan. In response to this, the Afghan army also started retaliatory attacks on Pakistan. Since then, violent clashes have continued between the two countries.
28 people from Afghanistan killed in Pakistan’s air strike
The United Nations said on Monday that at least 28 civilians were killed and 49 injured in an airstrike conducted by Pakistan on the border with Afghanistan on June 27. This action of Pakistan was taken after 3 Pakistani soldiers were killed at the headquarters of Sindh Rangers in Karachi. Pakistan had blamed ‘Jamaat-ul-Ahrar’, a group associated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), for this attack.
Tension between the two countries is at its peak
After the June 27 attack, the Afghan Taliban had said in their statement that they carried out an airstrike in Pakistani territory. At the same time, Islamabad said that its army intercepted and shot down four initial drones in Balochistan. After this, air strikes were conducted in three provinces of Afghanistan, Paktia, Paktika and Kunar. Destroyed Taliban arms and ammunition stores. At present, tension between the two countries is at its peak. Taliban has vowed to avenge Pakistan’s attack.
Washington sided with Pakistan
Now Washington has supported Pakistan’s attack on Afghanistan. It has said that it supports the right of Pakistan to defend itself from terrorist attacks. This clearly means that Washington considers the Afghan Taliban a terrorist group. Apart from this, Pakistan is a major non-NATO ally of Washington. Relations between Washington and Islamabad have improved since President Donald Trump returned to the White House. Pakistan has also been a mediator in efforts to resolve the US-Israel war with Iran.
