The world’s small but influential trading companies are making big money by continuing oil trading even during the Hormuz crisis. In this case, the name of Litton SA, a lesser known trading company of Switzerland, has come to light. This company played an important role in transporting Iraqi oil through the Strait of Hormuz. According to Bloomberg report, recently the entire world oil market was keeping an eye on the journey of a big oil supertanker, because Hormuz had almost reached the point of closure amid the war. Even in such an environment, this company remained involved in continuing the supply of oil.
Company owner and director Cody James Davis earned billions of rupees by selling oil. This company has old business relations with the Middle East and Iraq. According to Bloomberg report, in such risky conditions, oil and shipping companies are getting an opportunity to earn huge profits. Because when the threat to an important sea route like Hormuz increases, the cost of delivering oil, insurance and freight increases rapidly.
Route planning was managed like this
According to Bloomberg report, the Swiss trading company worked with extreme caution and strategy during the Hormuz Strait crisis. The company managed the route and movement of tankers in a secret manner. Many times, ships’ transponders, i.e. location showing systems, were kept switched off. During shipping, such sea routes or times were chosen when the risk was less.
The company sold oil at high prices
The report said that this trader continued shipments of Iraqi oil when many other companies withdrew due to security risks. This gave him a big advantage in the market. Oil supply was being affected due to tension in the Strait of Hormuz, hence the demand for Iraqi oil, which was able to come out in limited quantity, increased. Taking advantage of this, the company sold oil at higher prices and earned huge profits.
Even before this, many tankers have dodged the Iranian and American blockade in Hormuz. This is where the Automatic Identification System (AIS) is turned off. The location of the ship is known through AIS. When a ship turns it off, it is called dark activity. Usually this is done by ships that want to avoid sanctions.
