US President Donald Trump recently said that if Iran assassinates or attempts to assassinate him, America will launch a military attack on Iran that has never been seen before. Trump claims that he has already given permanent instructions to the US Army for this. Trump’s statement came at a time when, during the funeral of former Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, many people raised posters and banners demanding the death of Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On Saturday, Trump wrote on his social media platform that Iran is threatening to kill or attempt to kill him. He said that 1,000 missiles are already ready and aimed towards Iran. If the Iranian government follows through on its threat, thousands more missiles could be fired immediately.
Mujtaba Khamenei talked about revenge
A few hours after Trump’s statement, the statement of Iran’s current Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei came. He said on state TV that the Iranian people will definitely avenge the blood of his father and all those killed in both wars. He said, “We swear to avenge the blood of our martyrs. This is the wish of the entire Iranian nation and it will be fulfilled at any cost.”
What will happen if Trump is killed?
If Trump is assassinated, will America attack automatically? The answer is- no. There is no such law or pre-made rule in America, under which the army automatically starts attacking any country as soon as the President is assassinated. If a US President is assassinated, the Vice President immediately becomes President under the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution and the Presidential Succession Act of 1947. If Trump is assassinated, Vice President JD Vance will immediately become the President of the United States and supreme commander of the military. After this, it will be entirely their decision whether to attack Iran as per the instructions given by Trump, give any other response or not take any military action at all.
Does the US already have a secret plan?
America has special plans called ‘Continuity of Government’. Their objective is to keep the government running even in situations like a nuclear attack, major terrorist attack or massive destruction in Washington. However, there is no such rule in these plans that after the death of the President, retaliatory attack starts automatically. This means that even if Trump has already asked the army to prepare, the attack will not happen automatically.
Can Trump also order a nuclear attack?
Author Garrett M. Graf, who has written the book ‘Raven Rock’ on the secret emergency plans of the US government, says that Trump can leave instructions for the army in advance in the event of his death. For example, he could say to Vice President JD Vance, if I am assassinated, then launch a nuclear attack on Iran.
According to the graph, giving such instructions is possible under American law. But whether to obey that order or not will entirely depend on the then President JD Vance. That means Trump’s instructions will not be implemented automatically and the final decision will be taken by the new President.
