Zoho, the indigenous company that makes the Arattai messaging app, recently introduced a new server, which has created a stir. Zoho has launched the server at a time when there is a competition among companies around the world regarding AI and every company is busy increasing its technical capability. Recently, PMO India also shared a post praising this indigenous server and said that Zoho’s Made in India Server has arrived which will help in reducing the cost of the data center. Maybe many people are aware of the arrival of Zoho’s new server Nathu La, but do you know what this Nathu La is?
What is Zoho Nathu La?
Chennai-based multinational company Zoho has recently said that the ‘Nathu La’ server has been designed by the company itself. It is equipped with Intel Xeon 6 processors, which have been developed with the technical know-how and collaboration of Intel. Data centers with Nathu La servers can deliver the same performance with 12 to 18 percent less power consumption and 20 to 30 percent less total cost. This can also reduce the cost of inference, which is the process in which an AI model creates outputs on never-before-seen data.
By launching Nathu La Server, Zoho has joined the few companies which design their own server hardware and whose intellectual property is completely owned by India. This step has been taken at a time when the demand for servers is increasing rapidly with the use of cloud computing and AI, which has also increased the strategic importance of reducing India’s dependence on imports for parts of AI infrastructure.

According to the company, Zoho’s ‘Nathu La’ server based on Intel Xeon 6 processor is designed to improve performance for virtualization (VM), high performance computing (HPC), AI inference and storage applications.
Zoho also emphasized that all the modular components of the server, including DC-SCM and NIC (Network Interface Card), are designed in-house by the company’s hardware engineering team and assembled in collaboration with Indian Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) companies.
Work was going on for five years
Zoho said that it has been working on ‘Nathu La’ server motherboard and chassis platform for the last five years and for this it is investing in R&D (Research and Development) in the field of hardware, firmware and system management. It has been designed by a small team formed in Nagpur in 2020. This team also included new people recruited through Student Engagement for Transformative Upskilling. This is an initiative of the company under which industry-ready engineers are hired directly from colleges in Central India. So far, more than 300 students have been trained through this program, some of whom are now working at Zoho.
