Vi has joined hands with Meta to launch a new network-based verification method called Silent Mobile Verification. The purpose of this new protocol is to make the onboarding process on Meta’s social media platforms (Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook) easier and more secure. Talking about network based verification technology, this technology enables password less login, this will benefit you as the need of requesting OTP will also be eliminated. Vodafone Idea claims that SMV will help in providing better protection from phishing attacks.
Understand what is Silent Mobile Verification?
Soon, Vi subscribers in the country will be able to log in to Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram just by entering their phone number. With SMV technology, Meta’s social media apps will send verification signals over Vi’s cellular network to confirm authenticity. Once verified, users will be able to log in to the social media app without entering any password or OTP. However, if the app is not able to verify it then it will deny access to the user.
Vi claims that SMV will also fast-track registration of new users on the platform, mobile number verification, authentication during login and re-login process, account recovery and security check. It is said that the security protocol works in the background.
This eliminates the need for users to manually enter verification credentials. Vi subscribers will not have to switch between different apps for authentication or wait for verification messages, as the verification request is validated directly through the telecom network.
Apart from this, Vodafone Idea has emphasized that SMV will provide more protection from phishing and digital identity risks. Apart from this, Vi has also informed that plans are being made to make SMV available on more platforms and partner apps.
