Sana Malik Triple Talaq Polygamy Remarks: NCP MLA Sana Malik’s statement has created an uproar in the Maharashtra Assembly. The politics of Maharashtra as well as the entire country has heated up. Sana supported triple talaq and demanded implementation of law based on Quran in India. There is huge anger among BJP leaders on his statement. Many leaders have expressed objection to this.
Muslim personal law is not accepted – Shayna NC
On Sana Malik’s statement, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC said that on one side there is the Prime Minister, who abolished triple talaq and gave more respect and protection to Muslim women. On the other hand, there is Sana Malik, who gave a big and controversial statement regarding polygamy (more than one marriage). He said that this is allowed in Muslim personal law, hence the government should not interfere in it. My question is that when it comes to women’s respect and rights, why should the government not interfere? Shouldn’t there be a uniform civil code throughout India, which everyone should follow? Muslim personal law cannot be accepted completely without thinking.
‘Such things are an insult to the women of India’
The Shiv Sena leader further said that following the Quran is a different thing, but it is important to have equality and justice in matters like marriage, divorce, inheritance. Opposition to bringing reforms on these issues seems to be mere vote-bank politics. I would like to tell Sana ji to think again about her words. Such things are an insult to the women of India. Polygamy is old and backward thinking. There is no place for this in today’s modern and progressive society.

At the same time, BJP MLA Manisha Chaudhary said that Sana Malik said that Muslims follow Muslim law and Quran, but I want to say that our country is run according to the Constitution. Our judicial system is governed not by the Quran but by the Constitution.
What did Sana Malik say in the assembly?
NCP MLA Sana Malik said in Maharashtra Assembly that whoever speaks Quran in Islam, we follow him. If Pakistan has brought any rule to follow what has been said in the Quran, then India should also bring it. We demand it.
If you want Sharia law then go to Pakistan- Nitesh Rane
Minister Nitish Ran said that opposing UCC means demanding acceptance of Sharia law and there is no place for it in our country. Uniform Civil Code is clearly mentioned in Article 44A of the Constitution, so you will have to accept it, otherwise we will give you a ticket to Pakistan. Whatever is written in our Constitution will be followed.
Sana Malik gave this clarification after the uproar
After the uproar, Sana Malik later clarified that during the discussion on the UCC bill, reference to Pakistan was made in Lakshadweep two days ago. I argued only on two issues in particular. First, atrocities against women should be discussed and no religion or community should be directly linked to it. He said that the question raised was whether Pakistan has made any law and why the example of Pakistan is being given. I had expressed my views in the same context. Discuss women’s issues, but there should be no attempt to link them to any religion or community.
