Went to celebrate, dead bodies returned… painful end to incentive trip of LAVA employees in Vietnam

15 Indians died when a tourist boat capsized in Vietnam’s Phu Quoc island on Saturday, July 11. All the 15 Indians killed were associated with Lava Mobiles. According to the company, these included 14 dealers and distributors and one employee. According to the families of the deceased, these trips were given by Lava as a reward to those dealers and distributors for their better performance.

Among the dead, 10 were from Tamil Nadu, 3 from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala.

According to the Indian Embassy’s casualty list, ten of those killed were from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala. J. from Tamil Nadu is included in the list of dead released by the embassy. Senthil Kumar, A. Muruga Prabhu, S. Sridhar, Sheikh Abdullah Abdul Majeed, N. Balaji, C.B. Vinay Kumar, S. Ravi Shankar, S. Santosh Kumar, K. Babu and S. Algurajan’s name is included.

35-year-old Gelli Jayashree of Mudiyam Sridhar Machilipatnam from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh and 41-year-old N Ravi Teja of Sri Sathya Sai district were also included in the list of the dead. Gelli Jayashree’s husband was also riding on the boat with her. He is currently admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, according to the statement issued by the Kerala Chief Minister’s Office, AC Thomas and his wife Loveni have died in the accident. He was a resident of Kottarakkara.

Lava Mobiles said- We are in touch with the families of the deceased

Lava Mobiles has said in its statement that since the accident, it is in constant touch with the Indian Embassy and local authorities in Vietnam. The company is working towards bringing back the bodies of the deceased as soon as possible. Its teams are in touch with the affected families and are providing them all possible help.

How did the accident happen?

Murugaraj, a resident of Tamil Nadu and survivor of the accident, said that on Saturday morning, July 11, the boat had gone about 2 km into the sea. During this time a big wave came and the boat tilted to the right, the passengers fell on top of each other. We could not handle the pressure when the boat capsized. Somehow we got out of the window and caught hold of the railing. Many people drowned in the sea.

PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi expressed grief over the incident

Expressing grief over this tragedy in Vietnam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on social media platform X that he is completely heartbroken by the news of boat accident involving Indian citizens near Vietnam. At the same time, Rahul Gandhi also described this incident as very sad and disturbing. Apart from this, President Draupadi Murmu has also expressed grief over the incident.
