
Ahmad Khan on Welcome 3rd Budget: Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ has emerged as one of the biggest commercial entertainer films of this year. The film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic box office in just 10 days of its release. There were many discussions going on for a long time regarding this multi-starrer film with more than 30 actors and also its budget. Now the film’s director Ahmed Khan has put a full stop to all these speculations and talked openly about the film’s budget, shooting and earnings.
In a recent interview, Ahmed Khan told that Akshay Kumar’s film ‘welcome to the jungle‘So many actors were not cast just to show star power. According to him, the need of the story and screenplay was such that it demanded a big star cast. Therefore, every character was thoughtfully made a part of the film.
This much was the budget of Welcome to the Jungle
Despite having such a big star cast, Ahmed Khan kept the budget of the film under control. He told that the total cost of the film including Print and Advertising (P&A) was around Rs 125 crore, while the shooting of the film was completed for around Rs 110 crore. He said that if the shooting days had increased, the expenses would have also increased significantly. So he shot the entire film in just 75 days.
Could have been completed in Rs 75 crores
Ahmed Khan further explained that the delay in shooting is not limited to just the location or the artistes’ fees. As each day progresses, the expenses like catering, per diem, processing, editing, background score and many other expenses also increase continuously. He believes that the budget of films often increases not because of the big star cast, but because of poor planning and delays in shooting. He also said that if the film did not have so many actors, he could have completed it for Rs 75 crore.
The budget was not 200-250 crores
Ahmed Khan also rejected the reports in which the budget of the film was said to be Rs 200 to 250 crores. He said, “If I had spent so much money, then what was the point of my 36 years of experience in the industry? I was not making a superhero film where there would be huge expenditure on VFX. Our film is a simple commercial entertainer.” The director made the biggest revelation regarding the film’s earnings. He told that ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ had recovered its entire cost even before its theatrical release. According to him, the budget was recovered only by selling satellite, digital and music rights of the film. He said laughingly, “The film was a hit on paper even before its release.”
