After the defeat in the elections once again in Tamil Nadu, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has become active. AIADMK MLAs walked out from the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday. His allegation was that he was not allowed to raise issues during zero hour, due to which the proceedings of the House were disrupted for some time.
Party general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said that despite repeated requests to raise issues of public concern, the opposition was not given a chance to speak in the House. He said, “Today during Zero Hour, the Speaker did not allow us to speak. That’s why we walked out of the House. We are not being given a chance to speak inside the Assembly. We had asked the Speaker for a chance to speak on public issues, but we were not given a chance to speak.”
Demand for debate on ammonia gas leak
Apart from this, MLAs from other opposition parties Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) also requested the Speaker to discuss the ammonia gas leak incident in Tiruvallur in detail during the ongoing session and sought a detailed report along with fixing accountability for the security lapse.
The protest came after several parties, including DMK and Left MLAs, demanded a discussion on the ammonia gas leak incident at a seafood processing unit in Tiruvallur district. The death toll in the ammonia gas leak incident has increased to 5, while 67 injured are undergoing treatment and are under medical observation.
‘I will give all members a chance to speak’
Amidst this development, JCD Prabhakar of Tamil Nadu Assembly, while replying in the House, assured that members will be given time to raise the issue. He said, “DMK, AIADMK and many other members have demanded a discussion in the Assembly on the ammonia gas leakage incident in the seafood processing unit. I will give the opposition members a chance to speak.”
The opposition is demanding an immediate debate in the Assembly on this incident and is expressing concern over the safety of workers in the affected area and its impact on the environment.
