Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the National Assembly of Seychelles on Sunday, said that both the countries have a relationship with Seychelles for decades. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “It is a special honor for me to stand before you as the first Indian Prime Minister to address this National Assembly.” He said that I have brought with me the warm wishes and congratulations of the 1.4 billion people of India. The first country I visited in the Indian Ocean Region as Prime Minister in 2015 was Seychelles.
He said that I came here because I believe that Seychelles had a special place in India’s vision for the Indian Ocean. When I return here a decade later, this belief is stronger than ever. I am very happy to join you on the occasion of completion of 50 years of your independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, our friendship did not start with the establishment of our diplomatic relations 50 years ago. It started much earlier, in August 1770. Five Indians were among those who arrived on the Thelemac ship at Ste Anne Island. That journey showed the way to many more people who came after him.
He said that over time, their stories became part of the story of modern Seychelles. It reminds us that the relationship between us was not created by the government. They were created by people, nurtured by families and maintained by generations. The Indian Ocean made this possible. The Indian Ocean does not separate India and Seychelles. It connects us. That is why we meet not like strangers, but like old friends.”
