Wanted by Interpol, enemy of America… Will this general decide Iran’s next step?

May 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Amidst the increasing tension between Iran and America and the threat of a possible new war, one name is in the news the most. This is the name of Brigadier General Ahmed Wahidi. Vahidi, who is under the radar of both America and Interpol, is now playing a big role in Iran’s military strategy and decisions. Ahmed Vahidi is currently the head of Iran’s powerful military organization, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Vahidi had assumed this post when the old commander Mohammad Pakpor was killed in the attacks by America and Israel on 28 February. This day was also the first day of the beginning of the Iran war. America has already banned Wahidi. America alleges that he played a big role in suppressing anti-government protests in Iran. At the same time, Interpol is searching for him in the case of a major bomb blast in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina in 1994. 85 people were killed in the attack on the Jewish Community Center.

Wahidi is against the agreement with US

According to experts, Wahidi is considered against any agreement with America. He is counted among the most fundamentalist leaders of Iran. Ali Waez of the International Crisis Group said that in Iran, decisions are taken jointly, but Vahidi’s opinion is considered very strong. Danny Citrinovich, a former officer of Israel’s military intelligence agency, said that Vahidi is a very tough-minded leader. According to him, if America attacks again, Wahidi is fully prepared for a retaliatory war.

During the war, Iran increased pressure on oil supplies around the Strait of Hormuz. This affected the world’s largest oil route. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump warned that if Iran does not compromise, America may attack again. In response, Vahidi said that if Iran is attacked again, this fight will not be limited to just one area. He said that the enemies will have to face huge destruction.

Has also been Defense Minister and Home Minister

Born in Shiraz city of Iran in 1958, Vahidi studied electronics and industrial engineering. After the Islamic Revolution of 1979, he joined the Iranian government and army. He has also been the first commander of Quds Force, a special unit of IRGC. Apart from this, he has also worked on senior posts of Defense Minister, Home Minister and Army. In 2022, the US had imposed new sanctions on Mahsa Amini for suppressing the protests following his death. America said that Wahidi had threatened the protesters and women. Ahmed Vahidi has become the most important face among those deciding the next military and political strategy of Iran.
