It sounds like a story, but these eggs actually exist in Japan and thousands of tourists come every year to see and taste them. However, it is important to make it clear that the claim of increasing lifespan has not been scientifically proven. Despite this, the popularity of these eggs is continuously increasing.
A place named Owakudani, located in the Hakone region of Japan, is famous all over the world for these unique eggs. This area is known for its active volcanic area, sulfur mines and natural hot water springs. As soon as we reach here, we start feeling the strong smell of sulfur in the air. This natural environment makes these eggs completely different from other eggs.
How is egg prepared?
These eggs are not cooked in the normal way. These are boiled in hot steam emanating from the volcanic region and water rich in minerals. During this process the color of the egg shells becomes completely black. This is why they are called “black eggs”. From outside they appear completely black, but when they are broken, the inside is completely white and yellow like a normal boiled egg.
There is no color or chemical behind the black color. Actually, due to the chemical process of natural minerals like sulfur and iron, a layer of iron sulphide is formed on the egg shell, due to which its color appears black. This is what makes these eggs one of the most unique foods in the world.
The most discussed belief about these black eggs is that it is said that if a person eats an egg, his age increases by about seven years. This is the reason why many tourists coming here buy and eat them with eagerness. However, there is no scientific evidence for this claim. Health experts say that such belief is a part of local folklore and traditions and should not be linked to medicine or science.
