In the video, a sloth bear is seen comfortably climbing a high branch of a tree and eating honey from a huge hive of bees. The most surprising thing is that there are thousands of bees hovering around him, but the bear remains completely engrossed in his food without getting nervous.
This video has been shared by IFS Dr. PM Dhakate, who is serving as Special Secretary to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Chief Conservator of Forests in the Government of Uttarakhand, on his X (earlier Twitter) account. Describing this video as very special and rare, he wrote that such a scene is not seen every day. It is clearly visible in the video that the bear reaches the bee hive with the help of tree branches and then starts eating honey comfortably.

Usually, when any animal or human goes near a bee hive, the bees attack with their full force. They protect their hive by stinging in thousands. In such a situation, it is natural to ask that how does this bear attack such a big hive without fear? Doesn’t he feel pain from bee stings? Dr. PM Dhakate has also answered this in a very interesting way. According to him, nature has given the bear many special qualities which protect it from such attacks. During millions of years of evolution, such changes have taken place in its body due to which it can easily withstand the sting of bees.
He told that the bear has very dense and thick hair on its body. These hairs are so strong that most bee stings cannot reach the skin. Even if some stings reach the body, its thick skin does not allow them to have much effect. This is the reason why even the attack of bees cannot divert it from its goal. Not only this, there is another unique ability in the bear’s body. He can completely close his nostrils if needed. Due to this, bees are not able to go inside his nose or windpipe. This natural protection of the body keeps it carefree even among bees.
In fact, bears do not take such risks just to eat sweet honey. Along with honey, he also likes the larvae present in the hive. It gets plenty of energy from honey, while the larvae are a good source of protein. That means for him, it is a food rich in taste as well as nutrition. Therefore, despite the attack of bees, he continues to concentrate on eating.
