Losing a job is not easy for any person. But it is even more difficult when you do not get a new job even after trying for months. Every morning begins with hope and every evening ends waiting for a new answer. South African tech professional Edward Whitehead is going through a similar phase, who shared his story on LinkedIn. After reading his post, people all over the world are feeling connected to him, because this is not just the story of one person, but has become the reality of thousands of professionals today.
Edward starts his post with a very emotional line. He writes that today is not an easy day. This is a sentence in which the struggle of the last one year is hidden. He told that it has been 12 months since he left the job. During this time, he continuously applied for new jobs, gave interviews, contacted people, but till now he could not get any new job.
It is difficult to move forward while being unemployed
According to him, this journey is more difficult from within than it appears from outside. It is not always easy to apply to a company with hope, re-draft your resume, add new skills and prepare for the interview. But it seems most difficult when, despite so much hard work, we do not get a response or there is no response at all. Edward admits that there came many such moments when he felt that perhaps it would be difficult to move forward. Continuous failure can shake the confidence of any person.
Many times he also felt disappointed. But at such times he did not let himself break. The biggest reason for this was his family. He writes that whenever the thought of giving up comes to his mind, he looks towards his family. Looking at them one realizes that giving up hope is not an option. His own people trust him and that trust gives him the strength to stand up again every day. This is the reason why he is not stopping trying even today.
He told that in the last one year he changed his resume many times. Updated it according to every new job. Met new people, talked to old contacts and tried to strengthen my professional network. Despite this, till now no such opportunity has been found which could give a new direction to his career. However, Edward understood one thing clearly during this entire period. He says that if all the energy is devoted only to finding a job, a person can become mentally tired. Therefore, he decided that he would also invest a part of his hard work in creating something new.
Started different software projects
With this thinking, he has started working on two different software projects for some time. He believes that it is not necessary that every opportunity comes through a job in a company. Sometimes even your own work can change your life. Maybe one of these projects will open a new path for him in the future. Perhaps this could prove to be his next big opportunity.
His thinking is inspiring many people. In difficult times, people often focus only on the problem, but Edward used that time to learn and create something new. He believes that instead of sitting idle and worrying, it is better for a person to improve his skills and do such work which can create new opportunities in the future.
