A scary incident occurred in America’s famous Yellowstone National Park, where a tourist was suddenly attacked by a wild bison. The bison first chased the man and then picked him up with his horns and threw him into the air about eight feet. The man was badly injured in this attack and his condition is still said to be critical.
According to media reports, the incident occurred on Friday evening in the Bridge Bay Campground area of the park, which is located south of the Fishing Bridge. According to the people present there, this same bison had very aggressive behavior even before the incident. He was continuously running towards people and vehicles passing by, due to which an atmosphere of chaos was created in the entire area. The injured man was roaming in the park with his young grandson at that time. Both were walking at a considerable distance from the bison. It was told that they were about 100 yards away from the animal, which was much more than the safe distance prescribed by the park administration.
Bison attacked suddenly
Mike McLeod, a professional photographer from Bozeman (Montana), who saw this entire incident with his own eyes, said that the bison first ran towards a group of children. Children were trying to take pictures of it, but as soon as they saw the animal coming towards them, they immediately moved away from there. The campers present nearby were also continuously warning people to be careful and move away. After some time, the bison went to one place and started rolling in the mud. This is considered his normal behavior and at that time it seemed that he had calmed down. Seeing this, people felt that the danger had passed.
Meanwhile, the tourist and his grandson also stopped for a few moments and started taking pictures of the bison from a distance. After this both of them went and stood behind the nearby trees. Just then a white pickup truck passed by. Eyewitnesses say that the bison once again became enraged after seeing the truck. However he did not chase the truck. Suddenly he changed his direction and ran straight towards the trees where the grandfather and grandson were hiding. Seeing this, both of them tried to leave from there.
The grandson somehow ran away fast and got away safely, but the elderly tourist could not run away that fast. The bison chased them and made them run around the trees. After a few seconds he reached very close to her. After this, the bison hit the tourist hard with its horn and threw him into the air. According to the people present there, the person jumped up to about eight feet and then fell heavily on the ground. Seeing this scene the people present there got scared.
Even after the attack, the bison did not move away from there. He stood near the injured tourist and looked very angry. People were afraid that if anyone immediately came forward to help, the animal might attack again. In such a situation, Mike McLeod and some other people present there showed courage. They made loud noise and ran towards the bison to divert its attention. His efforts were successful and eventually the bison went away from there. After this the rest of the people could reach the injured tourist.
Bison fatally attacks grandfather in front of grandson
As soon as information about the incident was received, the emergency medical team of Yellowstone National Park reached the spot. After giving first aid, the injured person was immediately taken to the hospital. His grandson told that his grandfather has suffered serious injuries and at present his condition remains very critical. After this incident, the park administration has once again appealed to the people to maintain a safe distance from wild animals at all costs. Officials say that even though bison may appear calm, their behavior can change in a moment.
According to the National Park Service, an adult bison can weigh up to 2,000 pounds, or about 900 kilograms. Such a heavy animal can run three times faster than humans. This is the reason why it is very difficult to escape from it.
