Viral: No office till late, no calls on weekends, work-life balance first, is GenZ changing office culture?

June 28, 2026 by Uma Shankar

These days, a post is being discussed a lot on social media regarding the working style of GenZ employees. This post claims that the new generation employees are now setting clear boundaries between work in the office and their personal life. Whereas earlier many people used to stay in the office till late night to please the boss or pick up work-related calls even on holidays, now GenZ people are staying away from such habits. He believes that job has its place, but private life is also equally important.

This post was shared on X with an account named @RijhwaniSheetal. Sheetal Rizwani, who wrote the post, shared the experience of her cousin sister, who works in a company. He told that there is a separate group of GenZ employees in his office and all the people in this group follow some rules together. According to the post, the most special thing about this group is that everyone goes home on their own time. No one stays late just to make a good impression on the manager or to be considered hard-working. He believes that if the work can be completed within the stipulated time, then there is no point in sitting in the office unnecessarily.

Why is GEN-Z different?

Apart from this, members of this group also avoid answering calls or messages coming from the office on weekends or holidays. He says that holiday time is for family, friends and yourself. Unless there is a very urgent situation, they do not give place to office work in their personal time. It was also told in the post that if a manager misbehaves or behaves inappropriately with an employee, then these employees do not remain silent. They complain directly to the HR department. The special thing was told that the HR of the company also listens to the employees in such cases and if necessary, takes action against the concerned manager. This increases employees’ confidence that their rights will be protected.

Sheetal Rizwani mentioned another interesting incident. He told that one day the air conditioner of the office broke down. It was difficult to work in such an environment. Then the entire group of GenZ employees decided that they would go to a nearby café. He clearly told the HR that as soon as the office AC gets fixed, he will come back and start his work. That is, instead of working in an uncomfortable environment, he chose a better option and expressed his views openly.

Live your life on a different level

According to the post, Sheetal’s cousin believes that this thinking is quite different from previous generations. Earlier, many employees used to tolerate everything to save their jobs or to prevent their boss from getting angry. Be it working till late night, being available even during holidays or ignoring wrong behaviour, people often accepted everything without protest.

Now Sheetal asked her sister whether all the people in this group are GenZ, then the answer was yes. His sister said that it is a bit difficult for Millennials to come together like this and set their boundaries. He believed that many people of the previous generation continued to work in such an environment for a long time, where it was considered better to tolerate everything by remaining silent than to express one’s views.

Gen Z might actually be the generation that changes toxic work culture.

My Gen Z cousin told me they have a group at work with only Gen Z employees.

They all leave the office together, on time. Nobody stays late just to impress the manager. Nobody answers work calls.
