As peaceful and beautiful as the animal world appears from outside, sometimes a very harsh and scary truth is hidden behind it. A recent incident recorded in Katmai National Park, Alaska surprised people. The live camera installed in the park captured such behavior of a female bear, which left everyone stunned.
This incident was recorded in the cameras of Explore.org installed near Brooks River. The video showed that female bear number 806 attacked a small bear cub and took its life. This baby belonged to the female bear number 909 and was born in the spring season of this year. The most shocking thing was that after the attack, 806 ate the child.
Brutality caught on camera
At the time of the incident, 806 bears were present there with their two cubs. One of these children was about two and a half years old, while the other was one and a half years old. Shortly before the attack, his children were playing with the killed bear cub. But suddenly the atmosphere changed. 806 started chasing the small child and caught him within some time. After this she kept eating it for about 20 minutes. His own children also kept watching all this. Later the female bear hid the remaining part in the ground.
After this incident came to light, Explore.org organized a live discussion, in which park ranger and naturalist Mike Fitz answered many questions. He told that there is sufficient quantity of salmon fishes present in that area, hence it does not seem that this attack was due to hunger.

Mike Fitz clarified that this case is not like the behavior seen in male bears. Usually some male bears kill the cubs of other bears in order to reproduce with the female bear. This is called sexually selected infanticide. But no such reason was seen in this incident, because no male bear was involved in it. Experts believe that it is possible that the small child may have got scared after seeing 806 and started running away. Sometimes a running creature can attract a bear due to its hunting instincts. Perhaps this is why the predatory behavior within 806 became active.
