A very sad and shocking incident came to light on Saturday in Sao Paulo state of Brazil, where a 24-year-old girl died due to serious negligence in safety during bungee jumping. According to initial investigation and the people present there, the girl was sent to jump from the bridge, but the safety rope was not attached to it. This accident happened on an old and abandoned bridge called Ponte do Escaletto i.e. Skeleton Bridge.
This bridge connects the cities of Limeira and Cordeiropolis in Sao Paulo state of Brazil. Despite not being in use for almost 30 years, this place has become quite popular among the lovers of exciting activities and adventure sports. However, there is no official monitoring or security system here.
One mistake and the woman lost her life
According to the people present there, the girl fell from a height of about 35 meters. The most shocking aspect of the accident was that the safety rope required for bungee jumping was not attached to it. People present there at the time of the incident said that it was not a technical fault but the fault of the staff present there.
A woman, who was present there with her partner, said while talking to local media that even basic security checks were not done by the team. According to him, three other people had successfully jumped from the girl, but when this girl’s turn came, the staff did not check the rope. The woman said that it cannot be shrugged off by just calling it an accident because ensuring safety is the first responsibility of the management.
According to media reports, the girl had paid approximately $290 for this adventure activity. This package included the facility of video recording along with bungee jump, so that the women could make their experience memorable.

After this painful incident, serious questions have been raised regarding safety standards and operation of adventure sports. According to experts, even small carelessness in such activities can prove fatal, hence it is very important for those who organize such games to strictly follow safety. It is very important for the organizers to strictly follow the safety rules. At present the police is investigating the entire matter and efforts are being made to find out who is responsible for the accident. After completion of the investigation, legal action can be taken against the people concerned.
