Vikram Aur Betaal: 1 lakh spent on one episode… How much money was spent in making ‘Vikram Aur Betaal’ which came 41 years ago?

The TV serial 'Vikram Aur Betal' started on 13 October 1985, which ran till 6 April 1986. This show, which came on DD National, was shown again after 'Ramayana'. The concept of the show was based on Baital Pachisi, which was the story of King Vikram and the vampire Baital. One episode of this show was made for Rs 1 lakh. (Credit- Sagar World)This show was telecast every Sunday at 4:30 pm from 1985 to 1986. Arun Govil played the role of King Vikram i.e. Vikramaditya in the show. On the other hand, Sajjan was seen playing the role of Betal. This serial was directed by Ramanand Sagar's son Prem Sagar. In this show, all the actors including Deepika Chikhalia, Arvind Trivedi and Sunil Lahiri were in the show. Later 'Ramayana' was made with him, which was a hit. (Credit- Sagar World)Prem Sagar had told in an interview given to 'Laharen Retro' that the cost of making one episode of 'Vikram Aur Betal' was Rs 1 lakh. And there were total 26 episodes in the serial, so in total it would have been made for Rs 26 lakh. But Prem Sagar was seen telling that he had only one lakh rupees while making the serial. Later the serial was also telecast in Singapore, Poland, Chicago, UK and Mauritius. The special effects that you might have seen in this serial were given by Prem Sagar only, that too with Jugaad. Because computers were not that advanced at that time, the scenes had to be shot with Jugaad only. He had told that the entire team used to shoot 18 scenes in a day.
